This weekend marked a big moment for the San Leandro community: on Friday, November 14, Sprouts opened its new location at 1188 E. 14th St., as part of the larger Centro Callan mixed-use development in Downtown San Leandro. The highly anticipated Sprouts represents a welcome boost for San Leandro and gives residents improved access to fresh, healthy, and organic foods.

The new Sprouts offers a bright, modern shopping environment and embraces the chain’s signature “farm-stand” heritage by placing fresh produce at the center of the store. It also features an extensive selection of products designed to support a wide range of dietary needs and lifestyles.

Mayor Juan Gonzalez delivers welcome remarks.

The store is bringing close to 95 full- and part-time jobs to the community and will generate additional tax revenues while increasing foot traffic in the downtown area. Having a high-quality grocer within walking distance reduces the need for driving, encourages a more sustainable lifestyle, and strengthens the downtown environment as a convenient, livable hub.

Local residents explore the newly opened store.

Opening weekend included a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:45 a.m. on Friday along with fun celebrations, giveaways, music, and family-friendly activities. Early shoppers received special gifts, including long-stem roses for the first guests and reusable goodie bags. An astounding 400 bags were handed out in the first ten minutes of the store opening.
