San Leandro continues to shine as a regional innovation hub, with two local companies—B3 Investors and Fuse Energy Technologies—receiving top honors at the 13th Annual East Bay Innovation Awards on March 26, 2026. Hosted by the East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA), the event celebrates trailblazing businesses that advance entrepreneurship, technology, and community impact across the East Bay.

B3 Recognized for Transformative Built Environment Projects

B3 earned recognition in the Built Environment category for its pivotal work revitalizing underused properties and converting them into dynamic centers for innovation and community benefit. Sean Martin accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Among B3’s standout projects is Speedway at Bayfair, a 400,000‑square‑foot innovation campus bringing new life to portions of the former Bayfair Center mall. The project provides R&D space for clean tech, biotech, and advanced manufacturing startups—supporting local job creation and business acceleration. Tenants such as Vantage Robotics, Berkeley Yeast, and Reforge Robotics are already contributing to this growing ecosystem.

Building on its success at Gate510—home to fast‑growing companies like Lyten, Coreshell, and AirProtein—B3 continues to play a major role in strengthening San Leandro’s regional innovation landscape.

Fuse Honored for Breakthroughs in Fusion and Clean Energy

San Leandro‑based Fuse Energy Technologies was celebrated for major advancements in pulsed power fusion and neutron source technology. Joel Hernandez, Manufacturing Lead, and Gerard McGurty, Facility Lead, accepted the award on behalf of the Fuse team.

Fuse has developed the industry-leading pulsed power fusion drivers, validated through peer‑reviewed research and more than 100 successful tests. Their technology supports both clean‑energy development and critical national-security applications.

With over $75 million in investment and partnerships with federal labs and major commercial entities, Fuse is expanding its San Leandro footprint, planning growth in a 42,000‑square‑foot facility, and potentially creating hundreds of local jobs.
